LEARN MORE:
Back by popular demand Vox Musica, the acclaimed, 12-woman vocal ensemble, relives their concert entitled “The East” with a special one-night-only performance on January 30 at 7:30pm at Saint Ignatius Loyola Church (3235 Arden Way;Sacramento, CA 95825). Vox Musica‘s The East, which was first performed during the 2008-09 season, is a concert of music inspired by eastern influences, including new music from India, Persia and Georgia. It is an exploration of style and art that is the result of a collaborative effort between composers, conductors, choirs and singers from over three different Middle Eastern countries. It is through their sharing of art, music and culture that, Vox Musica is able to present this dynamic and innovative program to the western world. A composer of works performed by the world’s major choral companies, Minnesotan Abbie Betnis will be featured with a performance of her stunning multi-movement work, From Behind the Caravan: Songs of Hâfez. One of India’s only famed choral composers, Victor Paranjoti is highlighted on this performance with two works, one of which is performed from manuscript and saw its first western performance when Vox Musica premiered this piece last season. Two rare works from the country of Georgia juxtaposed the classical Indian works in the first half of the concert, enlightening the listener with fresh lush choral harmonies. Also programmed are two new works written especially for Vox Musica, by regional composers Matthew Grasso and Lua Hightower. With their technically brilliant talas and ragas The Nada Brahma Music Ensemble, a local classical Indian fusion group and cellist, Tim Stanley will accompany Vox Musica and set the tone for this program.
Don’t miss this final opportunity to experience Vox Musica
